Today’s Football picks – England

Evening All,

Spot on with that call on the Charlton game last night, Wigan also delivered, Bury sprung a surprise and Pep made too many changes that affected the fluidity of City’s play. Onto today then;

English Championship

This evening we take a look at the England championship where Wolves host Leeds. They currently sit top of the table and a win tonight will take them 4 points clear of second place Cardiff which will give a bit of breathing space. They are playing some good football under Nuno Santo who is in his debut season since he’s moved across from Porto (Portugal). Wolves fans must be surely pleased with the progress they are seeing under him.

They’ve been really solid at home this season with their only loss coming in gameweek 2, ironically against Cardiff. I expect that Wolves will be strengthened this evening with the return of Douglas from suspension. Douglas is a left-sided midfielder and is a great asset to the team he has, so far this season contributed 1 goal and 6 assists and is an integral part of the team. This is likely to be the only change that Santos will make this evening.

Wolves have won 6/8 of their home games this season averaging 1.88 gpg, Leeds, on the other hand, have lost 4/8 of their away games and are traveling away to the top side. Leeds currently sit in 9th position and with the win against Middlesbrough on the weekend that will ease some pressure on Christiansen. That win stopped a lot of four consecutive losses.

Leeds have lost 4 of the last 5 games in the league and have shipped three goals in three of them. Wolves have the best attack in the league tied for top spot with Sheffield United on 31 goals but have played a game less. Wolves at the back have only conceded the 15 goals so far this season and defensively that can only be bettered by Cardiff with 13. In saying that leads have actually bagged in five out of eight away games this season however recent form has been poor.

Taking all of the above into account, this should be a game that Wolves have marked down as a winnable one for them. Wolves to win and both teams to score sort of appeals, but Leeds’ recent form is putting me off that a bit. The straight win is too skinny for me so I’m going to take the -1 Asian handicap on Wolves.

Not enough time here to write up the other 2 games but fully expect Middlesborough to have the beating of Birmingham who have the worst away record in the league. They are only 1.66 for the win so no single on that but will add them to a double with Ipswich BTTS and overs. Also the single on the Ipswich game.
